In English, knowing when to use 'a' or 'the' can be difficult. Fortunately, there are rules to help you, but you need to know what type of noun you are using.

Grammar rule 1

When you have a single, countable English noun, you must always have an article before it. We cannot say "please pass me pen", we must say "please pass me the pen" or "please pass me apen" or "please pass me your pen".

Nouns in English can also be uncountable. Uncountable nouns can be concepts, such as 'life', 'happiness' and so on, or materials and substances, such as 'coffee', or 'wood'.

你完全同意以上的句子，除了「修長」二字。對呢，腿部總好像很易變粗又很難減，長期坐著會當然會粗、去做運動嗎又怕令它們過份強壯！應該如何是好？

讓我們先看看蘿蔔腳的成因。小腿會變粗、變蘿蔔，主要由於體內廢物的堆積，雙腿是身體離心臟最遠的部位，如果心臟功能稍弱、血液循環不暢，隨著血液進入小腿的廢物便難以「回籠」，日積月累下便「堆積如蘿蔔」了。
